Picking up Steam for the Latinos!

We are picking up steam for the XIX Latin American Championships for 2001.  Fábio "Frangão" Albuquerque, President of the CBEA (Confederation Brazil de Esqui Acuatico) has been working around the clock preparing his site for the most important Latin tournament of the Southern Waterski Season.

Brazil will field it's largest team ever of 17 competitors and a total of 80 "esquiadores" are confirmed from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Perú and Mexico.  Teams begin arriving on April 4th (Chile) and the rest arrive on April 7th to preparation for the April 12-15 Championships of South America.  It should be 4 days of action packed excitement as the Latin Stars take to the waters.

The 2001 Latino's will be held in Brazil

For the first time in more than a Decade, the annual Latin champs return to Brazil at a perfect site just outside of Iguasu Falls - Largest in the World Sao Paulo in Itu. Tournament dates are April 12-15, 2001.  Nearby, one of the 7 wonders of the world, Iguasu Falls is located - why don't you come and join us?

Things should be hot and heavy in the tropical sun as the Latin Stars take to the wakes.  Look for Site of the XIX LatinosJavier Julio (ARG) to return after his injury last season.  Jorge (Georgi) Renosto returns after his brilliant performance in the Melbourne Masters in Australia!  Watch the Miranda Brothers ply the courses - last year they tied for in slalom with 3 at 38 off - with Rodrigo winning the run-off.  And, their younger brother, Felipe, after his tremendous performance in Greece at the World Junior Championships in Agrinio.

Brasil will be serving up a few specials of there own with Nicholas Fuldauer and Marcos Figeiredo - both exceptional skiers in their own right! And, they have some hot newcomers!

We are expecting nearly 75 contestants at this prestigious event that wraps up the South American season in grand style.  If you check out the following page, the Brazil Water Ski Federation page, we will post results and news in English and spanish and portuguese as well as photos and, if I can figure out my MPEG camera - maybe a shot or two of the Girls from Ipanema whom will be bussed in direct from Rio (on this occasion only!!!).  I will also attempt to send my daily reports assuming I have the correct telephone connector for Brasil!  Anyone been there?  They will be sent to the IWSF page, USA Water Ski, The Mooseman (Ski E News) Page, About dot Com,  Aquaskier and Ski Fly.  For these links, go to the Pan Am Region Page.

USA Water Ski will be taking particular interest in the Latin Collegiate skiers so that they can keep their amigos at home in the news about the tournament.

This is a GREAT competition and you don't want to miss it.  Kuno Ritschard, President of EAME will be there as Chief Judge (Juez Jefe).  I will be there with the loaded suitcase from hell and we all get to try out Dave Clark's (USA) video toys - trick video from the boat! Geez, I hope someone brings the electricity!

Un abrazo grande (a big hug - en espanole)...  VernO
